Phil joined the Holy Name staff in 2021. His ministry focus is on all areas of liturgy and music for Masses, funerals and other parish worship. Phil came to Holy Name after 13 years as Director of Worship & Music at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Richfield. He also brings experience as a high school choir/music teacher and coach of youth sports (primarily baseball). Phil graduated from Luther College (Decorah, IA) in 1990, and went on to earn his Music Ed. degree from Concordia University, St. Paul. He taught high school choir at both Hopkins and Eden Prairie high schools before coming to find his true passion of leading worship and music. Phil's family includes his wife, Mindy (an exceptional singer/musician, but committed to children's choirs at a different church so unfortunately probably won't be a presence at Holy Name as much she would like), and two teen-age sons - Jack, who is off to begin college at Western Michigan University in the Fall, and Jamie, soon to be a junior at Washburn High School. Ask Phil about his many years singing with the National Lutheran Choir or anything about baseball (if you're not afraid of a long conversation)!
