7-09-23 - 14th Sunday OT A - Fr. Leo Schneider

14th Sunday Ordinary Time - Fr. Leo

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, And I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you

and learn from me, For I am meek and humble of heart; And you will find rest for yourselves.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”  - Matthew

These comforting words invite us to lay down our burdens and rest in God.  This great peace is the gift that comes from living in the Spirit of Christ. How often Jesus says to us in the Scriptures, “Peace be with you!”

Our second sentence points to the door of God’s peace.  Meekness and humbleness of heart are what unites us with Christ.  When we can trust God’s provident love for us and surrender ourselves to the Father’s will, meekness and humbleness become a blessing.

Putting aside our fight for control, we place ourselves in God’s love and open our hearts to receive the gift of the moment in good times and in bad.  Sometimes we will feel happiness, at other times, the more challenging, joy in being in Christ sharing his redemptive love.
