3rd Sunday of OT—Fr. Leo Schneider
Last Sunday, Jesus manifested his divinity by changing water into wine. That it was done among family and friends is telling. Everything Jesus does, is done to build up the Christian community of love. As Christians, we are right to have social justice as a strong proponent in living our faith.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus broadens his mission to include captives, the poor, the blind and the oppressed. Jesus wants all creation and every living person to live in harmony. For Jesus, that is the image of the Kingdom and what we are called to dream and act into being.
Human intimacy in the Kingdom, is underscored in Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians. He uses the analogy of the human body. There are many parts, but one spirit. And just as all the parts of the body work together, so too, the human family is to treasure each other, acknowledging our dependance on each other in our common journey into the fullness of life in the Holy Spirit.
As a reflection, we may ponder the marvel of the human body and reflect on how so many diverse systems and organs work together to sustain the body that houses our minds, feelings and soul. Just as our bodies are one, we as God’s people, are to live in the same harmony as found in the human body.
Keeping this thought as we go through our day can help us remember that in all we do, whether at work, or home, or in the market place, we are to do with the expectation of love toward all. It’s not what we do in our lives, it is how we do it.
This week, let us make an effort to treasure our faith in such a marvelous God who has fashioned all things to live in harmony. Let us pray that we may let the one Spirit flow through us and make a difference in our being here for others as Jesus is always here for us.
