33rd Sunday - Fr. Leo

As we come to the end of the liturgical year, our readings image the end times. At the same time we are warned to disregard those who think they know when the end is coming.  The end will come.  For most of us though, I think our earthly end will come before the end of the world as we know it.

What is important in intense times as pictured in todays apocryphal writing, is faith.  No matter what goes on, or how things go down, we are to trust in the Lord for our defense and not plan it before hand.  We are assured that not a hair on our head will be missed by the God who looks over us.

To persevere in the end, is to persevere in living our faith now.  To die a holy death, we must pray for it now and do all we can to live and act in the Spirit of Christ. Without a doubt, this is God’s will.  That we should share in his divinity.  So in the end, ours is to open our hearts  with desire for the Holy Spirit and pray continually in word, act and meditation for a heart made one with the One who created us in love.

When we have this desire, we will pass from this world to the next.  From this place of time and space to an existence beyond time and space. This is a real passage we will all make, and living in the Spirit is our hope, and the reason we were born into this world to begin with. Living in the Spirit allows the Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven. Our yes to God, like Mary’s, brings the Lord into our midst one heart at a time.
