Feast of Pentecost - Fr. Leo
The scene depicted in the passage from Acts that we just heard is not far fetched. It certainly sounds as if it is to us. But the gift of speaking in tongues and the interpretation of tongues is very real. I once witnessed a charismatic prayer group where there were these experiences and they were inspiring.
The take away for me was not the gift of tongues, but a realization of what the Spirit can accomplish that is beyond my conception. This realization is what I pray each of us may have in our faith experiences, an experience of the unlimited creativity and power of God who can speak to our inner truth and enliven in us the transformation which only the Spirit can effect.
When we live in a world of moral decay where killing and death seem to have become a new normal, we need to stir our hope that things can change. That the light of the Holy Spirit will lead us out of darkness into God’s endless light,
Today, we invite the Holy Spirit to be our prayer, to renew in us that we may live with hope in the goodness and love of our creator. So, let God lead us. Let us open our hearts to his Spirit and pray for the courage to envision ourselves and the world remade in the Kingdom Jesus gave his life, to establish in and among us.
Love can soften hearts and awaken goodness in every person, transforming the world into the light of Christ. For this, let us pray as we beg the Spirit to dwell in us, enkindle the fire of our love, and renew the face of the earth! May all humanity share in the one pulse of God’s ever loving love! Amen.
