20th Sunday - Fr. Leo
The Scriptures of the last few Sundays have carried the same theme. Jesus as the Bread of Life. We hear these same words today. And on one level, they are still strange. Strange, because we can not rationally understand the Mystery of God. Preaching is difficult, because we resort to reason to reflect on the divine, which can not be understood.
We use so many words and maybe make to much out of the homily, when the real presence of God in the Eucharist comes without our understanding and beyond our control. As we celebrate the Eucharistic Liturgy, we enter in to the presence of God. In our reception of Christ in communion, we move beyond words and receive Christ in the loving silence of our hearts.
So let us put our words aside in this homily and let us devoutly follow the prayers before us and hope that Christ will transform us and our world as he transforms the bread and wine into his real and true presence. Let us simply reflect that we become tabernacles of God.
