4th Sunday OT - Fr. Leo

Jesus was rejected by those who knew him best.  Why, because God couldn’t be so familiar, could he?  He wouldn’t be human, would he?

Yes, God shared our nature in Christ and so is more familiar to us than we are to ourselves.  Our challenge is to see God.  To see God in creation, in human affairs, and especially in human hearts including our own.

The extraordinary is in the ordinary if we slow down, be still, and notice.  God is in our depths beyond our mental chatter and emotional engagements, and with prayer and reflection we can notice him in all our interactions.

This is why St. Paul says so poetically in First Corinthians; Love is patient, love is kind.  I’d like to share that part again, that it may resonate in us through the week.

“Love is patient, love is kind.
It is not jealous, it is not pompous,
It is not inflated, it is not rude,
it does not seek its own interests,
it is not quick-tempered,

it does not brood over injury,
it does not rejoice over wrongdoing
but rejoices with the truth.
It bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails.”
