13th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Fr. Leo
Jesus heals Jairus’ daughter and a long suffering women in today’s gospel. Both healings happen because of faith. The woman with the hemorrhage believed, maybe even desperately so, that if she just touched Jesus’ cloak she would be healed. She touches Jesus and he creates a scene wanting to know who touched him. Why? It was his way to confirm her faith. “Your faith as saved you, go in peace!
Jairus asked Jesus to heal his daughter and when news arrives that she has already died, Jesus ignores the message and tell Jairus to have faith. So Jesus heard Jairus’ prayer and healed his daughter in a dramatic way by seemingly raising her from the dead.
What can we take away from these healings? One, Jesus, can and does heal. Second, He heals to confirm the faith people have put in him. So, when we pray, we pray out of faith that God may make a difference. And he will. He will answer our prayer. He will grant our prayer, or grant us something greater we may not be aware of at that time. But some day, we will know that our faith has blessed us and in faith, we will come to know we are saved from the darkness of this world to live in the eternal light of Christ.
